Question 1

How do I split a restaurant bill using SplitBill?

Accepted Answer

Upload or snap a photo of your restaurant receipt for instant local OCR scanning, or type items manually. Select who ate each dish, choose equal or portion-based sharing, and add taxes or discounts. SplitBill computes everyone's exact share down to the single paisa.

Question 2

Can I split a single item by portions (e.g. half plates or shared dishes)?

Accepted Answer

Yes! SplitBill offers portion/shares splitting. If two people shared one dish and a third had a full dish, you can assign 0.5, 0.5, and 1.0 portions. You can also tap 'Split into individual items' to break multi-quantity orders into separate lines.

Question 3

Is my receipt photo and financial data private?

Accepted Answer

Yes, 100%. All OCR scanning and calculations execute purely on your local device via client-side WebAssembly. No receipt images, bill details, or personal data are ever uploaded to any server.

Question 4

Does SplitBill work without internet access?

Accepted Answer

Yes. SplitBill is a certified Progressive Web App (PWA). Once opened or installed on your phone, all code, OCR models, and fonts are cached locally so you can split bills even without internet connection.

Question 5

How does SplitBill avoid rounding errors when splitting bills?

Accepted Answer

SplitBill uses integer math in smallest currency units (paise or cents) with the Largest Remainder (Hare-Niemeyer) algorithm. This mathematically guarantees that the sum of each friend's share exactly equals the printed bill total with 0 leftover discrepancy.
